The Review of Prospector John 2lb Raw Alaska Paydirt:
This is a review I have been dreading doing for so long. Not because I am not a fan of the paydirt but because Prospector John was the 1st paydirt I ever bought. I stumbled upon his old website one day and saw his priority mail boxes of unprocessed paydirt and it brought back all my memories of living in California and panning for gold. It cost around $60 back then $75 with shipping.
You would receive about 30-35 lbs of material of sizes from -30 all the way up to gold ball sized rocks. It would take me easily 2 weeks to pan it all out and man was it fun. Or so I remember! I have no memories of finding lots of gold, never found a picker. Yet still it was so much fun getting back into paydirt panning it brought back my calm. It was what I needed in my life to cope with some of the strains I was going through.
So I have avoided buying more paydirt from Prospector John ever since I started writing this blog and doing reviews, in the fear the paydirt might not pass my current formulas. I didn’t want to spoil or ruin my memories of those 1st boxes, and their were many of them. Yet here i am getting ready to dash my memories.
The Prospector John paydirt is unprocessed so it is full of fine dust that will dirty up your water. Yet is was devoid of any real black sands, so once you poured off the muck was easy panning. The paydirt was pretty evenly distributed among all the classifications. I doubted for the price I would find much in the larger classifications.
Well I was right when it came to the +10 material, no gold. I did however find my 1st bit of gold in the -10/+20 which was kind of surprising. However it went down hill from their with each smaller classification getting less and less gold. In the end I found very little gold and had a hard time finding the paydirt much fun. I know you take a gamble on unsearched paydirt, but you still dream.
I also had a real hard time with the CS out of John. He does state sometime his shipping can be slowed down due to living in a remote area, I found his replies to emails to be the slow process. It took me 3 weeks to get a combined shipping refund out of him. It took him a week to actually issue the refund after his final email. So not having great paydirt might be overlooked if the CS was awesome, having both being bad really sucked.
One thing about Prospector John Raw paydirt is I am 100% certain it really is unsearched paydirt. I know a lot of sellers claim such, but most just say that as an excuse to have small amounts of gold. With Prospector John he wants people to experience what he does as he works the dirt. So while it probably is truly unsearched paydirt, it still felt lacking.
Prospector John 2lb Raw Alaska Paydirt bag ended with a score of 5.7 out of 10. The low ROI, slow communications and cheap bag was just too much to give Prospector John a higher score. I will still have my memories though.

This review is my opinion and my results may vary from your results. My bag may have been a bad batch or a great batch, remember no two bags of paydirt are ever the same. So please use common sense when buying paydirt from any seller. Oh and good luck and happy panning!
